Critical Illness Insurance Products
Critical Illness Insurance was first introduced in the USA as a rider to Universal life Insurance Policies. 

We now see a number of new products being introduced every month, as more Companies are entering the competition. 

In this is a constantly changing market we will describe products using actual specifications without naming the product or company that provides the product. Products may not be approved for sale in all states and some companies are not licensed in all states. 

The specifications of the following policies are highlights of each policy and are not to be considered complete. Such as the description of life threatening cancer will vary slightly from policy to policy. 

Plan A: Stand alone Critical Illness Insurance Type I and Type II
Pays a death benefit equal to the lesser of the return of premiums or the benefit amount in force.

Type I is guaranteed renewable. The premiums are not guaranteed and may be increased or decreased. The premium rates can be only changed if they are changed for all policies on a statewide basis. Type II is guaranteed renewable. The premiums are level for the first ten policy years and yearly renewable term to attained age 75. The premiums are guaranteed for the first five years. Is convertible to Type I at any time prior to the earlier of the 15th policy anniversary or the insured's age 64. Premiums and qualification periods may vary by state. 
Plan B: Stand alone Critical Illness Insurance
Returns Premium if death occurs after 10 years if policy is in force.

Plan B-1: Fifteen Year Term and Critical Illness Insurance

The plan premiums are guaranteed renewable for 15 years and the premium cannot be changed for 15 years. The policy becomes annual renewable after the 15 year period, unless evedence of insurability is supplied the company for a new 15 year term.
Partial benefit payments reduce the Maximum Benefit Amount by the amount paid, and will also reduce the premium.
(*Stroke resulting in paralysis or other neurological deficit persisting for at least 30 days)
(**loss of independent existence is: the permanent inability to perform at least three of the following daily living activities: 1.transfer and mobility, 2. continence, 3. dressing, 4. toileting, and 5. eating.)

Plan C: Ten, Fifteen and Twenty Year Term Life with Critical Illness Rider
Pays Both Death Benefit and Critical Illness Benefit

Term Life premiums are guaranteed respectfully 10, 15 or 20 years. Critical Illness rider is guaranteed 5 years and presumed same rate for the rest of the stated term, with higher guaranteed annual renewable rates after the first 5 years for the critical illness rider. 

The qualification period is the time from first being diagnosed to period when benefits will be paid the condition must continue through this period and with confirmed diagnosis at the end of that period. 
This rider has a 60 day wait period after the policy is issued before critical illness coverage begins.

Plan D: Combination Critical Illness /Universal Life

If you qualify and receive Social Security Disability you will receive 20% per year for the first 3 years and the remaining benefit on the fourth year.
